Mike H. - Denville, NJ

Photo of Mike H.My family and I stumbled upon this little gem while looking for a quick bite to eat before a show Sunday night.  A short walk from the Wellmont Theater, we spotted a beautiful building with its own parking lot (a Montclair rarity) and walked down to get a bite to eat.

We were greeted by one of the owners and seated right next to where the pizzas are made so my daughter could watch.  Ah ' Pizz has only been open for a couple months and have not had their menus printed yet or done any advertising.  Strictly word of mouth at this point.  Its a good thing I have a big mouth!

The temporary menu had 2 salads on it and several different PIZZAS!  The flip side told a brief history of the origins of the Neapolitan pizza and the 100% wood fired pizza oven made from stone and soil from the area of Mt Vesuvius in Italy.  We kept it simple and ordered a Pizza Marguerita for my wife and I, and a "Bambino" pizza for our daughter.

The pizza guy (forgot his name) made our pizzas right in front of us and popped in to the 1000°F oven for its 90 second cooking.  That's right, I said ninety seconds!!!!  Some fresh basil leaves and a drizzle of olive oil on top before the quick trip to the table.  The time from order to table was roughly FIVE minutes.  Amazing.

The pizza was perfect, thin crust and perfectly done.  Everything was great.  My only advice to anyone that eats there is is if you're going to order more than one pizza, order the second (or consecutive) pies as the first one is delivered to the table.

Service was prompt and friendly.  We will definitely be back soon even with the 30 minute drive from our town.

Photo of Christina M.SOOO GOOD!!!  Best pizza I've found in my neighborhood so far. The crust is perfectly cooked, the ingredients tasted so fresh. I love that they put fresh basil on after the pizza was cooked and not before like some other places do.

Staff was very attentive and friendly.

I think this will be my go-to pizza spot in the Jerz.

Photo of Adam M.We got a little taste of this place pre-opening.  We were on our way to elevation burger up the street and walked by here, looked in and saw the ovens and went in to check it out and get a menu.  The owners told us they weren't "officially" open till next week, and didn't have menus or all their specialty meats, but offered to make us a Margarita Pie to try, and it was a good price, so we decided to check it out.  When we walked in we were the only customers, but by the time we left about 3 or 4 other couples had come in curiously after us....

The look of the place is nice, a lot of brick, open layout, big windows, plasma TV's and clearly visible bar of ingredients.

The pizza was out fast.....really fast...like 3-5mins.  They have the authentic wood burning super hot ovens....not one of those normal ovens that only go up to 500deg.

This place is Neapolitan pizza nirvana!
Great ingredients and they really know what they're doing.  The sauce was nice and lite and sweet, tasted like the imported san marzano tomatos....VERY good cheese (we saw the pkg and its the authentic Buffalo motz....goooooood stuff).  Nice fresh basil.....topped off with a little pecorino romano.  The crust was nice and light and airy, thin, perfect amount of chewiness.  Anyone who likes Patsy's or Grimaldi's will probably dig this....just dont expect it to be overly crispy but it's by no means soggy.  This pie is the real deal.  great stuff.

The service was good, for now at least it was the two guys, very nice, polite, attentive and talkative.  Seem like good guys, hope they do well with this venture.

Keep in mind these are not large pies (one size only) and rightfully so there does not seem to be slices.  Cutting this into saleable slices would be a barbaric act against a piece of food art/food porn.

The closest your going to get to this is Amano in Ridgewood....after a little chatter with the owners, they say they used to work for Amano, and have even gone to Naples to learn to make these pies so authentically.  Personally, I liked the crust better here compared to when I had Amano's pie.

It was only a matter of time before something like this came to Montclair.  Montclair is a mecca of good food joints, but it's always fallen short when it came to pizza (surprising for a college town).  It really is about time a good pie has moved in....and this is a damn good pie.   hehe

I will DEF be coming back to this place once they're all setup so I can try with some other toppings (altho its hard to improve on the classic cheese/basil pie).  I hope this place lasts and prospers...if so it will definitely be making it into our usual spots :)

If your into the Neapolitan Style pizza, be sure to check this place out.

I found Ah' Pizz kind of - sort of by accident....but let me tell you there was no accident is going here. WOW!

I was looking up new places to try in the Bloomfield/Montclair area and this place popped up. The few reviews up had only wonderful things to say about it and being the pizza enthusiasts that we are....we found dinner for Friday night. *score*

We drove passed it and we thought the building looked beautiful from the outside so it made us even more excited to go in. Once you enter; you're taken aback by the amazing smell and the beautiful yet subtle décor; with gorgeous exposed brick and a color scheme that looks to be built around the colors of tiles on the wood fired pizza oven they had imported from Italy. Their attention to detail is impeccable!

Almost right away you are greeted by a waiter; who hands us their menu. It's a limited menu showcasing their different pizzas. They also tell you about their daily specials. Perfect menu, to the point and nothing else; I hate those menus that are 15 pages long and you need cliff notes just to get through the appetizer section. Once the waiter took our drink order; we were then greeted by one the owners, Mike...who is in one word - Lovely!!! He was super excited to hear I found the place through Yelp and the reviews we're top notch...being that they only opened a few weeks ago was a huge compliment. He talked to us for a while, told us about the menu and what plans they had for the restaurant; which was jam packed by the way and what they hope to do to make it a successful place. Personally, I think they've already succeeded!

We we're starving so we decided to try a couple different pies. Be warned, they are cooked very fast, 3-4 minutes tops and the pie is on the table. So we ordered one at a time so we didn't have cold pizza sitting there. The first one we ordered was the Margherita pie. So so so good, we pretty much put this one away in about 2 minutes flat. We then ordered the Bufala Di Pomodorini; which consists of crushed tomatoes, fresh buffalo mozzarella, cherry tomatoes, Parmigiano Reggiano, fresh basil, and extra virgin olive oil! YES, I did just type that all out because in this pie you can actually taste every single one of these ingredients. It creates this happy feeling as your eating it. I don't know... perhaps they sprinkle some magic dust on it or something because it was like crack. We promptly devoured this thing and ordered another. Yep...we need help, or maybe we just enjoy really really good food?! By the time we finished the 3rd pie we were pretty full. Mike, did however come around to tell us about their dessert pie - which they take pizza dough, bake it, take it out and split it open and smoother it with Nutella; throw it back in the oven for a few seconds and then top it with powdered sugar. *drool* unfortunately I was going to burst by this point, so we'll save having dessert for next time. Which we also decided will be in the very near future!!!

Overall, this place quickly has taken 1st place for most amazing pizza in town and possible this side of the Atlantic!!! A++++++++++++++++++++++

that's me excitedly trying to type how much I like this pizza.  I've calmed down a little.  A little.

Went for their soft opening so it was a limited menu.  But so what.. when I go to a pizza place to evaluate, I need a basic margherita to truly evaluate.  This is perfect Neapolitan pizza, cooked in a wood oven.  The crust gets a little char, it bubbles.. its fantastic.

Their sauce is delicious san marzano tomato imported from italy along with their mozz.

The owner Mike was attentive and appreciated the business.  I'll be back again and again and again.  Can't wait to make this part of my routine.  Oh yeah... Sweet Sassy Molassy... It's BYOB... bring..your... own... BOOOYAAAAA!!!!  (or wine)

Do yourself a favor and order at least one pizza per person here.  They are good and thin and come out of the oven fast.  I love the Neapolitan style, with a little bit of char on the outside.  I ate a salad as well, which was made with quality arugula so I can't complain.  I'll be back here for another fancy pizza night soon!

Grabbed a margherita pie to go and ended up eating a couple slices there while chatting with the owner.  He was nice enough to listen to me ramble on about my love for pizza for twenty minutes.  The staff there were really attentive and friendly overall.

This is some damn good neopolitan pizza too.  Easily better than queen margherita's in Nutley.  It's right up there with Motorino in the city, and cheaper to.  I overheard some other people saying it was better than Amano in Ridgewood. I think this place will do Montclair some good, since  the rest of the pizza in the neighborhood is pure garbage.  I just hope people know going in that they're getting a different kind of pizza but they will enjoy it just the same.  I can't wait to go back and try the other pies.

Went to Ah Pizz a couple of weeks ago for dinner! In a  word. EXCELLENT.  Thin crust, fresh and delicious. Friendly service and the owner was very pleasant and informative. Had the Margarita pie. Very satisifed!   I want to try some of their other items now that they have had some time to get their feet on the ground.  Fresh delicous pizza has finally arrived in downtown Montclair!   Very convenient to get to.
